The 21 Most Important Things to Teach Your Child And How To Do It
Bob Bohler
Room 218
6:30 pm
Children do not come with an instruction book. You bring them home from the hospital and wonder what you are supposed to do next. The problem with parenting is that everyone is going through it for the first time, both parents and children. And though it gets easier with a second (and maybe third or fourth) child, there are lots of twists and turns and questions along the way. This class will discuss 21 indispensible things your children need to know, understand, and do. The class is aimed particularly at parents of children from ages 2 through 5th grade. We will look at things like: telling the truth, discipline, respect for property, kindness toward others, attitudes toward money, developing courage, learning about God, and many other important lessons. Every parent wants to raise great children. But what does that mean? How do we teach them the life lessons that will get them started on the right foot? How do we lay a foundation of good character and behavior that will serve them as they move into the teenage years? Come join in a great time of discussion, learning, and fellowship with other parents.

Religion and Science - Pathways to Truth
Doug Bailey and Wayne Peacock
Room 100
6:30 pm
Can you be a Christian and take science seriously? Can you take science seriously and still be a Christian?  At a time when influential voices are demanding that we either abandon the practice of religion or reject scientific findings, this essential and inspirational course offers a positive alternative: a way to live in today’s world as scientifically informed believers.  The series is hosted by Dr. Francis S. Collins, former director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, and author of "The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief."  Join more than a dozen world experts as they consider how religion and science might coexist and even complement one another in the 21st Century.  Lessons cover not only the questions related to origins,
but also questions exploring bioethics and environmental issues. Join us for this 13 lesson series (August 25-December 1 — no classes on October 27 or November 24.)

“Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study” - Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study asserts that the bible is the key to renewal in the church. It recognizes the human-divine nature of the Bible. The actual texts of Scripture were written by human beings like ourselves in their cultural settings, under the divine inspiration of God. The canon was formed as it is in order for God to speak to us. This study will give equal time to both the Old and New Testament, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as the revelation of God. Disciple Study aims at transformation, not just information, and calls on persons to submit themselves to examination by Scripture, to put themselves under the power of God’s Word, and to be changed by God’s Word. It invites persons to bring their experiences and struggles to the Scripture.

“The Book of Acts” - The Acts of the Apostles is unique; there is no literary or artistic or dramatic form to which it may be accurately compared or contrasted.  Acts argues strenuously from Scripture that Jesus is God's Messiah, but it is not a polemic argument. It tells a fascinating story, with memorable characters, but it is not a novel. By word and deed, Acts testifies to the risen Christ, but it is more than a testimony or proclamation.  The power of the Holy Spirit is witnessed and expressed nowhere in Scripture as it is in Acts. The reader sometimes has to confront the reality that this is not the Acts of the Apostles, but the Acts of the Spirit working through the apostles.  The Acts of the Apostles placed great demands on the author—and it demands much of the reader. Whoever begins the study of the book starts on the journey of a lifetime!
